Founding of TAKENAKA with the construction of shrines and temples.
1899

Founding of TAKENAKA CORPORATION. 14th-generation head of family Touemon Takenaka made his way to Kobe, which marked the first year of the company’s foundation. In 1900 Mitsui Bank Warehouse was completed in Kobe.
20th century
1958

Construction of the Tokyo Tower as the tallest building in Japan at the time (333m).
1973

Our European success story begins with the founding of TAKENAKA EUROPE GmbH’s European headquarters in Düsseldorf and the first project – Hotel Nikko.

TAKENAKA EUROPE designs and implements many complex buildings with demanding requirements.
21th century
2000

In cooperation with Japanese star architect Shigeru Ban TAKENAKA Europe built the Japanese Pavilion for Hanover Expo.
2005

Kia Motors Factory in Slovakia. With over 225.000 m² his project is a great representation of the many automotive projects that TAKENAKA Europe completed between 2000 and 2010.
2007

The new Headquarters for Kia in Frankfurt am Main became an iconic landmark.
2008

TAKENAKA EUROPE GmbH receives ISO 9001 certification/group certification for its quality systems. The internal auditors are fully trained, and Bureau Veritas is set up as a certification body.
2009

The iconic architectural design turns this headquarters of Amada into a real landmark.
2013

TAKENAKA EUROPE GmbH celebrates its 40th anniversary.
2015

Completion of the Japanese Pavilion at Expo Milan, the result of an exchange of expertise between the TAKENAKA branches Germany and Italy.
2017

GRAN THE HONOR in Kyoto won 1st “MIPIM Asia” award for best residential development in 2017. The MIPIM award is a great success for TAKENAKA CORPORATION.
2018

The new technical center for Nexen Tire in Frankfurt is a great example of a typical R&D project that was executed in Desig&Build method by TAKENAKA Europe.
2018

The factory extension in Czech marks the third project for our German client Mubea here in Europe. Our core value – continuous cooperation and close relationships with our clients – is not restricted to Japanese or Asian clients. We value all our partners and clients!

TAKENAKA EUROPE GmbH Slovakia branch completes the Jaguar Land Rover plant in Nitra (SK), in cooperation with the Czech subsidiary. For this achievement, Takenaka was awarded gold at the 2019 “Supplier Excellence Awards”. This project was also certified with BREEAM excellent.

For this Design&Build project, we focused on a sustainability approach for the building.
Referencing a forest theme, the office building has green walls inside and out, and boasts a rooftop vegetable garden. Company divisions are arranged around a central atrium, a layout that allows employees to cooperate organically, while always feeling the presence of greenery.

This warehouse and canteen mark the 17th project in a long line of successful and great projects with Makita Engineering.

This residential building marks the start of a new market for TAKENAKA Europe. We are looking forward to many more residential projects all over Europe in the future.
