EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai has officially opened its doors, and Takenaka Corporation is standing at the heart of this global celebration of innovation, sustainability, and connection. With the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” the Expo invites visitors from around the world to explore new ideas and technologies that will shape our shared future.
Building the Symbol of the Future: The Grand Ring
One of the most iconic structures of the Expo is the “Ring of Future,” a majestic circular walkway that unites the entire venue. Takenaka Corporation played a key role in bringing this architectural marvel to life – constructing one-third of the Ring, which now holds the title of the world’s largest wooden structure (certified by Guinness World Records on March 4, 2025).
Spanning over 2 kilometers in length, the Ring boasts a building coverage of 60,000 m², a height of 12 meters (20 meters on the exterior side), and an internal diameter of 615 meters. This massive wooden structure is more than a feat of engineering—it’s a symbol of global unity and environmental stewardship.
Takenaka – The Largest Construction Contributor at Expo 2025
Takenaka has the distinction of being the top general contractor in terms of construction volume at the Expo. We proudly contributed to the Ring and 29 other buildings within the Pavilion World West zone and additional key projects, showcasing our extensive expertise and commitment to excellence.
Key projects include:
- Osaka Healthcare Pavilion – Designed by Tohata Architects & Engineers and constructed by Takenaka, this pavilion explores cutting-edge medical innovations and well-being.
- Mitsubishi Miraikan Pavilion – With its theme “Connecting the Earth with Life and the Future,” this stunning architectural statement was brought to life through a joint effort led by Takenaka.
- Foresting Architecture – Seeds Paper Pavilion – A Bronze Partner in this visionary project, Takenaka helped create the world’s largest 3D-printed building made entirely of biodegradable materials. After the Expo, the structure will naturally transform into a forest, making it a true legacy of sustainability.
Pioneering Innovation: Umidoko Robot & Digital Twin Technology
Takenaka is also leading the way in future-facing technologies with the Umidoko Robot, an autonomous vessel that cleans water surfaces and creates digital landscapes. It will be featured in the Expo’s “Future Life Experience” zone, illustrating how robotics can serve urban sustainability.
Additionally, visitors can experience our digital twin technology, which captures real-time human movement and environmental data. This interactive platform bridges the digital and physical worlds, offering a glimpse into the smart cities of tomorrow.
